From the Mind of Dr. Nicki: On Stage Again…How did this happen!?

The need to write this show came upon me like a vivid announcement.

I was in conversation with the astrologer mentioned in the play and as he focused his attention on my recently dead mother I “saw” the play appear before me, title and all!!

Now, twelve drafts later and with the unparalleled guidance of Dramaturg/Director Diana Wyenn, the shape of that original vision has substantially shifted—however, the taste, feel, and intention has remained the same.

I’ve written in many forms—fiction novels, non-fiction books, short stories, blogs, poetry—but never a play. However, I come from an extensive theater background—an art
I truly admire—so in conceiving where to go with my story, nothing felt more immediate, vivacious and Sacred than a play.

My original life-plan was acting.

From the time I was seven I dreamed of the kind of fame I thought would "guarantee" me the attention I missed throughout my childhood. However, I found the business end of show business brutal for the insecure, self-doubting woman I was back then. Additionally, I was always drawn to being in service.

Enter therapy.

Much of what I adored about acting was digging into the inner workings of the characters I played and bringing them to life. Thus, I found becoming a therapist to be a destination that had been waiting for me to discover it. I realized I could use both my own life experience and even my delicious acting training to help affect real change in others.

Now, returning to the stage reawakens my love several decades later for the sincere intimacy dedicated performance allows. As with most things in my life, it feels as if this moment is inevitable—this time when I can share with humor, raw honesty, and real truth the journey that has led me to the enviable, Blessed life I now lead.

I hope audiences will be moved, informed, and ultimately…

experience a bit of healing of their own!
